The Glass House

In this free virtual talk, scholar Susanna Newbury will examine architect Frank Gehry’s designs for museums and artists’ studios in Los Angeles. This program coincides with the publication of Newbury’s book The Speculative City: Art, Real Estate, and the Making of Global Los Angeles (University of Minnesota Press, 2021). Susanna Phillips Newbury is Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and Vice Chair of the board of trustees of the Nevada Humanities Council. Her research and teaching interests focus on the social history of twentieth and twenty-first century art, histories of photography and architecture, urban studies, and economic geography. Glass House Presents is an ongoing series of talks, performances, and other live events that extend the site’s historic role as a gathering place for artists, architects, and other creative minds. This event is co-hosted by New Canaan Library and supported in part by Connecticut Humanities and the New Canaan Community Foundation.
