The Glass House in New Canaan, Connecticut, was designed by Pritzker-Prize-winning architect Philip Johnson, and is recognized as a masterpiece of postwar American modern architecture. Spanning 49 acres of pastoral landscape, the property is a National Historic Landmark and includes a collection of buildings and pavilions that exemplify key movements in architecture, including the International Style, Neoclassicism, and Postmodernism. At the heart of the estate are two seminal structures: the Glass House and its counterpart, the Brick House. Both were completed in 1949 and served as Johnson’s weekend residence. The site includes outdoor sculptures, folies, architectural structures, and a collection of 20th-century art including works by John Chamberlain, Lynn Davis, Donald Judd, Brice Marden, Robert Rauschenberg, David Salle, Julian Schnabel, Cindy Sherman, Andy Warhol, and original design furniture from the Bauhaus, Gaetano Pesce, and more. The site offers temporary exhibitions and exciting lecture series and events throughout the year. Open April- December, Thursday – Monday, and advanced tickets are required.
