As part of HDC's Six to Celebrate program, please join Queens Borough Historian Jason D. Antos for a virtual “walk” through history as we look at Sunnyside Gardens, Jackson Heights, and Woodside, and the lasting impact these neighborhoods have had on affordable housing in Queens. The borough has played an integral part in the history of American housing, starting with Benjamin Hitchcock, who, in the 1860s, was one of the first Americans to introduce the concept of the Installment Plan, or what is known today as a mortgage, when he developed a small section of Newtown into Woodside and West Flushing into Corona. Mr. Antos is the Executive Director of the Queens Historical Society and author of the upcoming book, Images of America: Woodside and Sunnyside.
