Please join the Center for Architecture for the opening celebration of two exhibitions—Searching for Superpublics and Making Energy Visible—that will be on view from October 3, 2025-March 28, 2026.

About the Exhibitions

Searching for Superpublics explores the design of the public realm across New York City’s five boroughs. Linear parks weave across neighborhoods, bringing communities together; resiliency projects combine ecological diversification with public programs; streets temporarily transform into playgrounds, stages and gardens; public amenities dot the city’s streets to produce collective comfort. These spaces may not look like the archetypical town square, but they evoke what it represents. They engage the past as they heal the scars of previous planning and development initiatives. They foreground the present by highlighting community action. And they look to the future by inventing design tools to address the converging crises of access, affordability, and resiliency to speculate on new forms of living together.

Making Energy Visible will bring together interpretations, representations, and visualizations of energy across different mediums of architecture. The exhibition considers how energy has come to be incorporated in design, and seeks out the agency of architectural imagination in a world in transition. Along a nonlinear timeline, participants will investigate how architecture plays a role in the conversion, conservation, harvesting, distribution, and consumption of energy.
