Arthur Erickson: Beauty Between the Lines invites audiences into the world of one of Canada’s most celebrated architects and urban planners. Erickson’s portfolio includes some of the country’s most iconic landmarks—Vancouver’s Robson Square and Museum of Anthropology at UBC, Toronto’s Roy Thomson Hall, and Canada’s embassy in Washington, DC. New York audiences may also recognize his work in the striking beachfront house he designed with partner Francisco Kripacz on Fire Island in the late 1970s. The film juxtaposes Erickson’s glamorous career and lavish lifestyle with the lesser-known realities of his life as a gay man navigating the AIDS crisis and personal bankruptcy. It offers both a testament to his extraordinary architectural legacy and an unflinching look at how his relationships shaped the spaces he created. (ADFF)
