ARCHITECT'S BOOKSHELF: A book drive between designers and students

Presented by LiA and Archtober Newburgh

Latinos in Architecture and Archtober Newburgh are proud to launch a special initiative that connects design professionals with the next generation of architects and designers. For the Archtober Newburgh festival, we invite architects* to donate books that have inspired their creative journeys, shaped their practice, or expanded their understanding of architecture and the built environment. Please write a note inside the book as to why this book is meaningful to you as an architect.

These donated books will be collected and then matched and distributed to local students who have expressed an interest in architecture. The initiative aims to build bridges between practicing architects and emerging talent, fostering curiosity in Newburgh Free Academy, Newburgh YouthBuild, and others, and sharing knowledge and inspiration through the simple but powerful act of giving a meaningful book.

As part of this effort, an optional meet-and-greet mixer will be held for students interested in architecture and design to connect with professionals. This gathering, Architects Bookshelf Mixer, will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2025, at 4:30 pm at ADS Warehouse at 105 Ann St, Newburgh, NY.

ABOUT LiA and Archtober Newburgh

Latinos in Architecture (LiA) is a committee within the American Institute of Architects Westchester + Hudson Valley Chapter. LiA (Latino in Architecture) was established in 2025 with the primary goal of recognizing and elevating the contributions of Latino design professionals within the broader architectural profession. The committee focuses on advancing development, expanding network relations, and promoting educational outreach through various initiatives and programs.

Home to the second-largest historic district in New York State, Archtober Newburgh celebrates the city's rich tapestry of architecture, preservation, and community during the first weekend of October in Newburgh, NY.  Unique to the Hudson Valley, this annual festival provides free programs to honor the city's shared cultural treasures, raise awareness about their significance, and engage a broader audience in neighborhood preservation efforts.

The festival is produced by The Fullerton and presented as part of @Archtober, NYC's annual architecture and design festival.
