Join us to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the building of the Great Nave. Nicolas Kemper, Cathedral expert and publisher of New York Review of Architecture, will lead us through the fascinating story of a critical chapter in the Cathedral’s history from 1925 to its completion on the eve of World War II.
In the midst of the Roaring 1920s, two people, a clergyman and a politician, joined forces to jumpstart the delayed building of the Cathedral of St John the Divine. Bishop William Manning and Franklin Roosevelt, inspired by architect Ralph Adams Cram’s vision, led a nation-wide campaign to fund what we now know as the Great Nave.
The talk will be followed by a reception.
