Join artist Gavin Snider for studio workshops on how to capture the iconic architecture of the Guggenheim New York through watercolor painting and sketching techniques. Each workshop will include an overview of the history, construction, and unique architectural story of the Guggenheim building, followed by a guided art-making experience.

Gavin will demonstrate how to build a composition from a blank page, “carving out” the subject with increasing levels of detail. He will discuss how to use negative space and apply light and shadow to the monumental forms of Frank Lloyd Wright’s most famous building.

Participants will learn basic principles of capturing architectural structures and buildings with watercolor or drawing materials. Specific areas of focus for each session will be posted in early April.

What’s Included

In addition to a building overview and art-making instruction, all workshop registrants will have access to:

· Free museum admission to visit current exhibitions on view
· Complimentary hot coffee or tea
· Access to basic art-making supplies to complete the workshop

$95 general, $90 members per person, per workshop. Participants are welcome to bring their own materials.

About Gavin Snider

Gavin Snider is an artist based in New York. He spends his days painting the city and the people in it. With a background in architecture, much of Gavin’s work focuses on buildings and urban landscapes. Several times a week, he chooses a location—whether a famous landmark or an unfamiliar neighborhood—packs up his notebook, and goes out to paint. He considers these paintings a form of urbanism, the study of city life. He has taught workshops in and around New York with Happy Medium, NYC Urban Sketchers, and McNally Jackson, among others.
