The Museum at Eldridge Street is proud to feature our current exhibition On the Lower East Side: Twenty-Eight Remarkable Women…and One Scoundrel, showcasing the work of artist Adrienne Ottenberg. Portraits printed on silk or cotton include a tableau of street maps depicting the Lower East Side places where these women worked and lived.

We will learn about entrepreneur Gittel Natelson, authors and poets such as Sydney Taylor, Emma Lazarus, and Anzia Yezierska, nurses and healthcare pioneers like Lillian Wald and Elizabeth Tyler, a plethora of activists including Emma Goldman, Clara Lemlich, Rose Schneiderman, Pauline Newman, and Mabel Ping-Hua Lee, educator Julia Richman, sculptor Louise Nevelson, and even a petty criminal with a catchy moniker–"Stiff” Rivka. Although these women might be known for their different professions and exploits, they all have commonalities.

Please see the Zoom link in your order confirmation email. This program is entirely virtual.
