Join us on Saturday, August 5, as we step back in time to remember and celebrate the Queer Harlem Renaissance. Taking place from roughly 1919 to 1935, the Harlem Renaissance heralded works by Black artists and writers. This tour looks not only the influence gay social networks had on the development of the Harlem Renaissance, but also the importance of sexual identity. Utilizing augmented reality through the Queer Harlem Renaissance phone application, we will walk through Harlem and witness the people, places, and histories from Drag Balls to Rent Parties. Bring a full charge of battery and get ready to excavate this exciting history with us! Following the walking tour, we will gather at the nearby Harlem Cafe for coffee and a bite to eat. Here you can also learn more about the tour guides themselves, how the app came to be, and what's next in its development! This event is free to attend, but donations are welcome either in advance while registering with Eventbrite or at the conclusion of the tour. All proceeds will be donated to the Ali Forney Center.
