Join us for this family-friendly screening of "The Last Black Cowboys in NYC," followed by a panel discussion!
Known for his dedication to keeping the equestrian tradition alive despite urban challenges, this documentary will share how Raleigh W. Hall, AKA Cowboy Curly, found his calling and positive influences while growing up in the Jamaica, Queens housing projects, embraced the identity of cowboy culture, and became the co-leader of the Federation of Black Cowboys NYC.
Learn how Cowboy Curly was inspired to give back to underprivileged inner-city youth and founded Cowboy Curly's Cultural Center and Hacienda (located at 152-50 Rockaway Boulevard in Jamaica), which houses a large collection of Black Cowboy, indigenous, Native American, historical, and enslaved people's artifacts. Our program will also include roping and lasso demonstrations with Cowboy Curly and other members of the Federation of Black Cowboys, and special items from the Cultural Center. Fun for all ages!
