In the middle of Green-Wood is a cavernous underground space rarely open to the public. The Catacombs is not just a place of rest for the departed, it is also the setting for New York’s most distinctive and atmospheric musical experiences. Our 2022 Concert in the Catacombs series is curated by acclaimed experimental singer and songwriter Gelsey Bell. Hailed by The New York Times as “one of New York’s most adventurous musicians,” Bell brings together performers from a diverse range of styles, backgrounds, and influences. Price: $40, and $35 for members. GET TICKETS in person event icon In-Person Event There are no paper or e-tickets. Attendees will be checked in by name. This evening’s performance features electro-acoustic composer and improviser Zeena Parkins. Having designed a series of one-of-a-kind electric instruments, Parkins is a pioneer of contemporary harp practice, using expanded techniques, object preparations, and electronic processing to re-define the instrument’s capacities. Sonic presence and personality is revealed in explorations of subtle frequency shifts, feedback, over and under tones, melodic fragments, timbral and gestural intervals, perception, and residues.
