A four-decade journey through the rich musical history of the East Village, all within a six-block radius of the Tompkins Square Library. Led by music historian and professional walking tour guide, Jesse Rifkin (also the author of the 2023 book, This Must Be the Place: Music, Community, and Vanished Spaces in New York City), this lively and exciting tour will bring participants to extraordinary and important sites that witnessed the birth and flowering of such music styles as folk, jazz, punk, new wave, no wave, anti-folk, disco, hip-hop, techno, and shoegaze. And be prepared for some special surprises!
