Join Jack Gillmer-Lilley (co-creative director of the Australian Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale) and Liam Coe (Senior Design advisor at the Government Architect New South Wales) in a conversation about how can Aboriginal perspective, culture, lived experience and practice inform the ways we build. How architecture can learn, and listen.
How can Aboriginal perspective, culture, lived experience and practice inform the ways we build? How can architecture learn, and listen?
This conversation finds architecture within resistance — shaped by colonial occupation and centuries of Aboriginal defiance for Land, water and sovereignty. It asks how Aboriginal perspective, culture, lived experience and practice inform the ways we build, and what is owed to the revolutionaries and agitators whose sacrifice must not be paved over, gentrified or forgotten. Architecture is considered here as a vessel for self-determination, a discipline reckoning with its own colonial paradigm and unceded ground. And still we ask: who holds voice and agency for Land, water, sky and our non-human kin — and how might architecture learn, finally, to listen?
