Midtown Neighborhood Walk of Queer History

This program will take place in person at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library - please meet inside the library at the front entrance of the building (along 5th Avenue). All participants must sign a waiver so please try to show up 15 minutes before the start time.

Explore midtown with a curated, librarian-led walking tour featuring sites of queer resistance throughout history!

Join branch staff from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library for an in-person walking tour from Bryant Park to Broadway! Learn more about the history and landmarks of this neighborhood and connect with the queer community, past and present.

Midtown is not typically thought of as a landmark area of queer history, but you might change your mind after the end of this tour. In this walking tour we’ll talk about various groups that forged the path for queer liberation, methods in which the lgbtq+ community supported and continues to support one another, and where/how you can access lgbtq+ resources at the library today.

The tour will last approximately 1 hour, begins at the front entrance (INSIDE) of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (on 5th Avenue), and will span roughly between 5th and 8th Avenues from E 40th to W 43rd Streets. We’ll take a walk through Bryant Park tracing moments of collective queer action alongside local buildings and statues.

• Please arrive 15 min early to have time to complete the form on site
• You may also fill it out in advance and bring your copy with you to the tour
