Join Hudson Valley House Parts for a series of hands-on historic preservation workshops introducing the fundamentals of restoring and caring for older buildings. Each session explores a different aspect of traditional craftsmanship and rehabilitation.

Workshop 1: Understanding Period Hardware 9:30AM - This workshop focuses on identifying and understanding historic architectural hardware. Learn how period hardware evolved over time, how to recognize original pieces, and what to consider when repairing, restoring, or replacing hardware in historic homes.

Workshop 2: Historic Door Restoration with James Kelly 11:00 AM - Historic doors are among the most distinctive features of older buildings. In this workshop, James Kelly will demonstrate how to assess the condition of a historic door, evaluate existing finishes, and understand the techniques used to repair and restore original woodwork while preserving its historic character.

Workshop 3: Historic Window Restoration with Ben Brandt 12:30 PM - Join Ben Brandt for an introduction to historic window restoration, with a special focus on glass replacement. Learn how traditional windows can be repaired and maintained to preserve their historic character while extending their lifespan for generations to come.

Workshop 4: Lime Mortar 2:00 PM - Learn the essentials of repointing historic masonry with lime mortar. Participants will explore why traditional lime mortar is essential for preserving historic brick and stone buildings, how it differs from modern cement-based mortars, and best practices for maintaining historic masonry.
