Young Climate Stories is a documentary series produced by The World Around that follows participants in its Young Climate Prize, a mentorship program for climate innovators under 25 from across the globe.

How To Plant A Lake

Dayana Blanco Quiroga, age 25, has witnessed Bolivia’s Uru Uru Lake become dangerously choked with mining runoff and industrial waste, severely impacting the future of seven Indigenous communities. Alongside her mentor, Argentine curator Sebastián Acampante, and her Uru Uru Team, the Aymara climate leader is fighting back by building floating rafts of totora reeds, to draw the toxins out of the lake. 

A Garden in the Desert

A Garden in the Desert is about Mohamed Salem Mohamed Ali, one of the most compelling voices from Cycle 02 of The World Around Young Climate Prize. While living as a refugee in the Sahrawi camp in Algeria, he has built a thriving garden that grows vegetables and herbs, supports animals like ducks and fish, and recycles water through a complex system of pipes and troughs.

Wasted Treasures

Working on the front lines of both the climate crisis and the war in Lebanon, Carlos Ayvazian is innovating to provide a wide range of resources to those who have been displaced and deprived of basic necessities. Ayvazian founded Wasted Treasures when he was 22. The project offered a cost-effective, eco-friendly heating solution by transforming organic waste into high-calorie biomass products, addressing Lebanon’s energy and environmental crises simultaneously.
