A Panel discussion with Katherine Chia, FAIA, cofounder of Desai Chia Architecture, Claire Weisz, founding Principal of WXY architecture + urban design, and Mabel O. Wilson, the Nancy and George Rupp Professor of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University. The moderator will be Julia Gamolina, founder and publisher of Madame Architect.

This will be both an In-Person and Online Lecture. The lecture will be followed by a Book-Signing.

A significant new book, The Women Who Changed Architecture  provides a visual and global chronicle of the triumphs, challenges, and impact of over 100 women in architecture, from early practitioners to contemporary leaders. In this panel discussion, these leaders in the architectural field will talk about their careers and discuss the influential women featured in the book and the effect they had on architecture from the late 19th Century to the present.

The Women Who Changed Architecture sets the record straight on the transformative impact women, long underrepresented in architectural history books, have made on the profession. With in-depth profiles and stunning images, the book provides the most comprehensive look at women in architecture around the world, from the 19th century to today. The 112 architects featured in The Women Who Changed Architecture hail from 35 countries across six continents. Worldwide, these women indelibly influenced the evolution of architecture throughout the 20th century and continue to do so in the 21st. As  the editor of the book, Jan Cigliano Hartman explains in her preface, “Selecting these architects followed strict criteria: design excellence and distinction, cultural and social progressiveness, and leadership in architectural practice—superior work, research, teaching, publications, and organizational engagement.”

"An essential compendium of influential women designers from the late 19th century to today....Accompanied by beautiful photos, this collection of biographies showcases the industrious and unique paths each woman forged to master their craft, even when credit was often given to their male partners or bosses."
