What makes Fifth Avenue one of the most sought after addresses in New York City? How does something that starts as a simple dirt road through the middle of a rural Manhattan become the center of America's urban landscape. During the Gilded Age, Fifth Avenue was lined with extravagant mansions built for the wealthiest New Yorkers by the starchitects of the age. And it was the destruction or repurposing of these homes that set the tenor for today's iconic thoroughfare. In this talk, adapted from Untapped New York's popular Lost New York series, Chief Experience Officer Justin Rivers will examine some of Fifth Avenue's most interesting secrets with a look into some of the magnificent early 20th century mansions on Millionaire’s Row including 1014 Fifth Avenue. Justin Rivers leads Untapped New York’s experience department, creating and delivering some of its most popular tours including the Underground Tour of the NYC Subway, the Remnants of Dutch New Amsterdam, and the Remnants of Penn Station tour. His mission continues to be creating and leading unique experiences that help New Yorkers and visitors alike rediscover their city. He has lived in New York City for over 20 years and is a graduate of Fordham University. 1014: Past and Future comprises a weekend of architecture, culture and community. The program will feature an exhibition and talks at 1014 5th Avenue and guided walking tours in the Upper East Side neighborhood. Accessibility Statement: Unfortunately, 1014 Fifth Avenue needs to be refurbished and is not fully accessible in its current stage. We apologize to our guests and kindly ask you to contact j.stubbs@1014.nyc if you need further information or assistance. We will do our best to enable everyone to join us. COVID Protocols: For everyone’s health and safety, proof of COVID-19 vaccination (age 12+) -- either in digital or hard-copy form -- and masks (age 2+) are required for all visitors to 1014 5th Avenue. Hand sanitizer will be offered upon arrival.
