Join Professor Patrice Derrington, Holliday Associate Professor of Real Estate, Columbia University, as she leads a lively discussion on how the multifamily topology has evolved over the past century. Esteemed architect Robert A.M. Stern and his partners, Paul Whalen and Michael D. Jones, explore the notable, but also more the disguised and merely hinted, features that have endured through the decades. Bob discusses how certain design formats of the earliest apartment buildings reflected the aspirational societies of Paris and London, and will explore how residential buildings have evolved to suit the social and lifestyle objectives of modern times. Jones and Whalen join the robust dialogue to consider the unique features in their designs for multi-family residential buildings in New York City, the aesthetic references, and classical interpretations for residents today.

The talk will occur at one of RAMSA’s latest developments, luxury boutique residential building 1228 Madison Avenue. Nestled in the heart of the Upper East Side’s Carnegie Hill, 1228 Madison Avenue is RAMSA’s most intimate multifamily residential building in Manhattan.
