A guided World’s Fair History Walk with Alliance for Flushing Meadows Corona Park docent Linda Fisher. The tour stops at approximately a dozen remaining 1939/40 and 1964/65 World’s Fair sites in the park, from the iconic Unisphere, built by US Steel for the 1964/65 Fair and the New York State Pavilion, with its state-fair-inspired design by Philip Johnson, to lesser-known spectacular spots. You’ll pass what is now Terrace on the Park, but was once the Port Authority pavilion, shaped in a giant T for transportation and, if time allows, the tour will end near the second-oldest outdoor antiquity in New York City, bequeathed to us by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. All ages are welcome. Please wear comfortable shoes. Questions and World’s Fair memories welcome.
