Constructed in the 1920s, this East Village building served as a ConEd substation, as the studio of Walter DeMaria, and now as the New York outpost of the Brant Foundation. The project highlights a century of history—from the original industrial apparatus to contemporary art—in a single space, continuing a tradition of inspired creativity for which the East Village is famous. Inside, 7,000 square feet of galleries occupy four levels, each offering a unique experience.
